Advent - Week 4 {LOVE} - Sunday 12/23/2018

In the 4th (and final) week of Advent, we light the "Angel's Candle"🕯, which reminds us of the message of the Angels: Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men".

This week, our Littles are going to color the Angel (below) and write a prayer in the blank space, which will be cut/pasted into their Bible Journals, just as done in the previous weeks.

We hope you and your family have had a joyous time.during this advent season and wish you a very Merry Christmas. 🎄

Advent - Week 3 {JOY} - Sunday 12/16/2008

Today we celebrate the 3rd week of Advent, where we light the candle of JOY. This candle reminds us of the joy the world will experience at the coming birth of Jesus...here are the resources I will use.

I know everyone celebrates Christmas in different way but we have a family tree, which holds our breakable ornaments, family heirlooms, etc...where the presents from us and Santa will go. Then we also have a Christmas Tree just for the kids, downstairs, which they can decorate with their own ornaments and treasures. This year I am going to have our Littles color their own nativity ornament for their tree, as well as color the nativity scene for their Bible Journals.

The Nativity Ornament (free coloring page) came from: http://www.share-christmas.com/kids/firstchristmas/

Advent - Week 2 {FAITH} - Sunday 12/9/2018

In preparation for the 2nd week of Advent, where we are anticipating the birth of Christ, I thought this prayer was a great way to start the festivities with our littles...

This week we light the candle of FAITH, which reminds us of the faithful journey Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem. Here are the resources I am using iwth our littles this weekend.

First, we will color the Journey to Bethlehem sheet below, and paste it into our Bible Journals as well as dicuss faith and what it means.

Source: I simple google searched "journey to Bethlehem" and found this:

However, today, Saturday, Dec. 8th is the Holy Day of Obligation so my littles and I are also going to have color a Saint Mary coloring sheet and cut/paste this into our Bible Journals as well. https://www.scribd.com/doc/8665160/Immaculate-Conception

Some background information ...
Question:What is the Immaculate Conception? If one does the math, Jesus surely wasn't conceived just 3 weeks before his birth...
Answer: The Immaculate Conception refers to the condition that the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from Original Sin from the very moment of her conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. We celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8; nine months before is December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Advent - Week 1 {HOPE} - Sunday 12/2/2018

I especially love this time of year. 🎄🌟 It is the season of giving, the season of gratitude, and the birth of our Lord, Jesus. There are so many wonderful blessings to reflect on this year and I've found doing to with our children makes the season so much more meaningful - for all of us. This is our second year doing Advent activities and I'm grateful to tell you that I am overjoyed and our children are too!! In a 1-subject notebook both myself and three of our children are journaling through Advent, writing a verse each day, as well as what we are thankful for. It's something we do before bed each night until the 24th.

If you want/ need more information about Avent, here is a GREAT resource I found a year ago for adults that explains Advent symbology as well as what is celebrated week by week is: https://www.catholiccompany.com/getfed/the-advent-wreath-tradition-meaning/

To celebrate the 1st week of Advent we light the candle of HOPE, which is also known as the "Prophet's Candle", reminding us that Jesus is coming...

here are the resources I found, that helped me explain and foster the meaning of Advent with our Littles.

With this I have the kids write the words HOPE - FAITH JOY PEACE and write the bible verses above, and draw an illustration for what that scripture means to them. I'll post pictures of our kids' journals soon!

Then, the kids colored and cut/pasted their own Advent Calendar Tree (below) in their Bible Journals as well, each night we color the corresponding "day" and say a prayer together.
I got the Tree from: http://www.zephyrhillblog.com/2014/11/free-printables-and-coloring-pages-for-advent/

The Book of Ruth - Week 4

Can you beleive it? This is our final week of the Book of Ruth! Congratulations! YOU DID IT!

We are so glad you are joined us for our in-depth study of the Book of Ruth. 🍁📖 Whether you have been with us from the start or are joining us today - it's easy and fun so come on!

Each week we will study the W.O.R.D. of God through the Book of Ruth - be sure to check-in here as well as on FB each day M-F.

*Our typical studies have us reading One Chapter a Day but in our in-depth study we will be reading a few verses a Day!

Here is the "Reading Schedule" for Week 2:

Here are the #VerseoftheDay 📖 for Week 4:
Monday
"And the closest relative said, "I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I jeopardize my own inheritence. Redeem it for yourself; you have my right of redemption, for I cannot redeem it." Ruth 4:6

Tuesday
"Moreover, I have acquired Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of Mahon, to be my wife in order to raies up the name of the deceased on his inheritence..." Ruth 4:9

Wednesay
"So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And the Lord enabled her to concieve, and she gave birth to a son." Ruth 4:13

Thursday (Reflection Day)
"Salom was the father of Boaz, Boaz was the father of OBed, Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David." Ruth 4: 21-22

Friday (Reflection Day)
"You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy..." Psalm 30:11

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from thier sins." Matthew 1:21

Here are the #Reflections for Week 4:
Monday
Ruth is in love with Boaz, yet he is struggling over redeeming her. His first option to redeem her is to so via "another man". Have you ever felt conflicted over where your redemption comes from? Who has a chance to redeem you before the Lord does?

Tuesday
The picture gets painted (again) the our Lord Jesus is whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of our sins. How often do you seek redemption?

Wednesay *
Finally Ruth is free to marry Boaz! But that's not all - the Lord enabled her to concieve too. So many blessings after such along period of being barren. What about you? Are you experienceing a period of fruitfulness or are you going through a barren season? What do you need to do to show God you trust in his timing?

Thursday
As we conclude our study of Ruth we have come full circle. Naomi has gone from bitter to blessed. Ruth has gone from barren to fruitful. How did they do it - through thier relationship with Jesus Christ.
Evaluate your relationship with Christ.
When was the last tiem you:
Prayed?
Attended Church?
Tithed?
Volunteered your time?
Forgave?

Friday *
One last note - What we LOVE about the Book of Ruth is that it shows us that even if our relationsihp with Christ is off or even non-existent, this book shows us that all we have to do is reach out to God and our lives will turn around.
What did I learn from Ruth?
How am I a "Modern Day Ruth"?
How has the Lord redeemed & restored me?

Here are the #VerseoftheDay 📖 for Week 3:
Monday
"Naomi said to her {Ruth}, "My daughter, I must seek a home for you that will please you." Ruth 3:1

Tuesday
"So she {Ruth} went down to the threshing floor and did just as her mother-in-law had instructed her." Ruth 3:6

Wednesay (Reflection Day)
"Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:31

Friday (Reflection Day)
"Wait for the Lord: be strong, and let your heart take courage; Wait for the Lord!" Psalm 27:14

Here are the #Reflections for Week 3:
Monday
Chapter 3 is about the next step in drawing Ruth closer to God. What draws you close to the Lord?

Tuesday
Ruth is to cast herself at the feet of Boaz. We do the same to the Lord, when we throw ourselves at the Lords feet. When do you rest at the Lord's feet?

Wednesay *
What have you done lately that pleases the Lord?

Thursday
Ruth has not only shown her loyalty to Naomi but also to Boaz. How are you loyal to the Lord?

Friday *
Waiting for God's timing can be tough. Do you seek Him or His gifts?

Book of Ruth - Week 2

We are so glad you are joining us for our in-depth study of the Book of Ruth. 🍁📖 Whether you have been with us from the start or are joining us today - it's easy and fun! Each week we will study the W.O.R.D. of God through the Boof of Ruth - be sure to check-in here as well as on FB each day M-F.

Here is the "Reading Schedule" for Week 2:

Here are the #VerseoftheDay 📖 for Week 2:
Monday
"Now Naomi had a kinsman of her husband, a man of great wealth, of the family of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz." Ruth 2:1

Tuesday
"Then she {Ruth} fell on her face, bowing to hte ground and said to him, "Why have you found favor in your sight that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?" Ruth 2:10

Wednesay (Reflection Day)
"When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest." Leviticus 19:9-10

"Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee..." Psalm 57:1

Thursday
"And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "May he be blessed of the Lord who has not withdrawn his kindness to the living and to the dead"..." Ruth 2:20

Friday (Reflection Day)
"You are good, and what you do is good: teach me your decrees." Psalm 119:68

"For by grace you have been saves through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the Gift of God." Ephesians 2:8

Here are the #Reflections for Week 1:
Monday
How do you live with the Lord's grace as your foundation? How could you develop that grace even more?

Tuesday
What is the one requirement for the protection and provision of God - Grace! Grace leads to amazement as well as action. How has God shown you grace?

Wednesay *
By law Ruth had a right to glean among the corners of the field. By grace Boaz pulled grain from the bundles for her. In what ways have you seen God's grace & mercy in your life?

Thursday
What type of character pleases the Lord - a gracious one. See the theme here?
How can/ do you spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally embody a gracious character?

Friday *
It's hard to be gracious all the time. It's also sometimes difficult to hold onto hope. I keep thinking about Naomi - she's lost hope and it isn't hard to see why...she's faced some incredibly difficult circumstances.
What renews your hope?
How has God's grace renewed your hope?

Introduction to the Book of Ruth

WELCOME to Balanced Living Bible Study!
Whether you are a returning member of our Faith-Filled Life community or a NEW one we are so thrilled you have chosen to study the Bible with us! Our FB group leaders have already got their “Closed Groups” going but it isn’t too late to join one. Please comment below or comment on our FB page and we will get you in one.

Our 4-week long study begins Monday, September 17 but we thought it might be fun to switch things up with this study and give you an Introduction to the Book of Ruth. Although the Book of Ruth is about Ruth, there are two other women featured in this book alongside her - Naomi and Orpah. Then, of course we can't forget about the infamous male figure and hero of the story, Boaz.

Who is Ruth?
We find it interesting that Ruth is one of only two women in the Bible to have Books named after them, Ester being the other. Ruth is a Moabite woman and she is also a young widow. She is the daughter-in-law of Naomi and although she is dismissed, she refuses to leave. Ruth is beautiful both inside and out, which matches the meaning of her name “a sight worth seeing”. She is loyal, devout (as well as a convert), and has a kind heart. She is the kind of woman other women strive to emulate. She is our protagonist.

Who is Naomi?
During the rule of the Judges, which is when this Book takes place, there was a great famine that raged against the land of Israel and its people. When Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, decides to move the family from Bethlehem to Moab their fate is set – suffering, trial after trial is endured, as well as that of Ruth and her sister-in-law Orpah. Naomi is Ruth’s mother-in-law.

Who is Orpah?
Orpah is also Naomi’s daughter-in-law but she is quite different from Ruth. Upon the death of her husband Orpah hugs her mother-in-law but does not cling to her as Ruth did - she leaves, which allows us to see what an incredible gesture of loyalty and love Ruth offers to Naomi by staying. Orpah isn’t our antagonist but rather a  contrast to the depiction of what Ruth’s grace and conversion really mean.

Who is Boaz?
Boaz is the hero of this story but we don’t want to give too much away as to why… so we will simply say that he is a wealthy landowner in Bethlehem who is related to Naomi’s late husband.

If you can’t wait to read it for yourself and want a sneak peek at one of the Bible’s greatest love stories?
