Weekly Reading Plan:
Monday
Reflection Question for the day: God sees You!
Sarah gave her servant-girl, Hagar, to her husband, Abraham, to bear him children, since she was barren. Once Hagar conceived, Sarah felt as though the servant now felt above her and beat her. Hagar flees from Sarah, but God tells her to return to Sarah, stating he can hear her cries.
Hagar says God is the God of vision – not implying but outright stating that HE sees her, not just hears her.
In what circumstance(s) in your life does God SEE you?
Tuesday
Reflection Question for the day: Our God is an Awesome God!
Although this chapter is about God’s promise to Abraham that his wife, Sarah will bare him children and that his descendants will go one for generation after generation (we will get to all of that next)…but for not, it is the lyrics to Michael W. Smith’s song that fill my head as I read this verse…”Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from Heaven above, with wisdom, power, and love, Our God is an awesome God…”
Then my mind drifts to the beautiful peeks and valley of Yellow Stone National Park, which to me is one of the most beautiful places on earth. What wonders made by God have you seen?
Wednesday
Reflection Question for the day: God CAN Do It!
Sarah has stopped having her monthly period, yet God tells her that this time next year she will have a son. Sarah laughs, because the notion of such a thing is unbelievable. It would be a miracle – and it came true!
What miracles from God, have you witnessed? Or experienced in your life?
Thursday
Reflection Question for the day: Don’t Look Back!
This was quite an explicit command from God, yet Lot’s wife didn’t listen. God wants us to stay focused forward, to move on, to let go, to live in this moment – looking forward to the next. Edna Mode’s quote, from Disney’s Incredibles movie comes to mind, “I never look back darling, it distracts from the now.”
What are you looking forward to in the future? What role does God have in your future and in the things you mentioned to the previous question?
Friday
Reflection Question for the day: Someone Else is Praying for You!
Prayer is such an important part of our relationship with God. Although God is the Almighty, He created the universe so that it can operate independent of Him – He gave us free will and nature it’s own laws. Remember learning those in school ;)
Multiple passages in the Bible teach us that prayer makes a difference, especially when we intercede for another, so…
Who do you pray for? And for what do you pray?
