Greetings! Monday we begin Week 2 of our continued study in the Book of Genesis!

Here are your virtual resources for Week 2 - Genesis: Chapters 31-35!

Weekly Reading Plan

Monday - #VerseOfTheDay

Monday - Reflection Question

Reflection Question for the day: God is watching over us.
When we aren’t with the people we love, it can be difficult. Do you ask God to keep watch over that person (or people)? For whom do you pray this prayer? List their name and add them to your prayer list.

Tuesday - #VerseOfTheDay

Tuesday - Reflection Question

Reflection Question for the day: I am unworthy to receive you…
Jacob is saying that he is unworthy of God’s kindness, as he waits for the arrival of his brother Esau, who’s coming to meet him with 400 men. Jacob fears Esau, unsure of how he will be received, so he acknowledges God’s kindness and loyalty in hopes of having it now.

In the Mass we say “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” Why do we say this? How is this statement preparing us for the Eucharist?

Wednesday - #VerseOfTheDay

Wednesday - Reflection Question

Reflection Question for the day: God’s grace
Gracious – adj.; mercy, compassion

What mercy has God shown to you this year? Last year? In the last decade?
How have you thanked Him?

Thursday - #VerseOfTheDay

Thursday - Reflection Question

Reflection Question for the day: A Community in Faith.
Who makes up your community of faith? How do your relationships that are based in faith, differ from those that are not? How could you subtly share your faith with all?

Friday - #VerseOfTheDay

Friday - Reflection Question

Reflection Question for the day: Put No One Else Above God.

Are you sure you are putting God first? Life is so busy and we are all pulled in so many different directions, it can be difficult to keep our priorities in order.

How do you put God first?

Weekly Reading Plan

Monday - #VerseOfTheDay

Monday - Reflection Question
Reflection Question for the day: God is with You!
At what times in our life has God been by your side? What difference did His presence make in the situation? How did you know He was with you?

Tuesday - #VerseOfTheDay

Tuesday - Reflection Question
Reflection Question for the day: Cursed or Blessed.

You have a choice! God curses those who curse you, so are you making sure that you aren’t cursing anyone else either. Who in your life needs blessings? List their names and add them to your prayer list.

Wednesday - #VerseOfTheDay

Wednesday - Reflection Question
Reflection Question for the day: Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
Jacob declares that if God keeps him safe on his journey, the Lord shall be his God. He further states that he will faithfully pay 1/10th of everything God has given him to the house of God.

How do you give back to God? What do you give of your time, your spirit, and your purse?

Thursday - #VerseOfTheDay

Thursday - Reflection Question
Reflection Question for the day: Equality.
Although this verse is part of the love story between Jacob, Leah and Rachel…the lesson of equality stands out. God favored Leah, because Jacob loved Rachel more. Since Leah was not treated fairly (or equally), God favored her over Rachel, even though Jacob favored Rachel.

Do you treat everyone in your life the same? Who do you favor? What makes that person (or those people) stand out above the rest? What could you do differently, so that no one feels unloved, when around you?

Friday - #VerseOfTheDay

Friday - Reflection Question
Reflection Question for the day: All in God’s Time.

Recall a time in your life when you wanted something so badly, but didn’t get it. Maybe you had been waiting so long, you’d almost given up hope that you’d ever get it, but then God’s blessings rained down. Why do you think God make you wait? How did you thank Him?

#NationalDayOfPrayer

.
Today, May 5, 2016, marks the 65th National Day of Prayer.
The theme for 2016 is Wake Up America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name.
The verse Isaiah 58:1a (NIV) is the Scripture selection for this year:
“Shout it aloud, do not hold back.
Raise your voice like a trumpet.”

We hope you feel moved to join the movement and pray today!
Here's the Catholic Bible translation for Isaiah 58:1

Genesis 22 FREE Bookmark & our NEXT Study!

Greetings All!
We are excited to release our final Genesis Bookmark! We've enjoyed creating them for you and hope you have enjoyed adding some color to the "Good Book". This week's selection was inspired by the following verse...
"God himself will provide the sheep for the holocaust."
Genesis 22:8

The meaning behind this verse is so incredibly powerful, let's walk through it together...
Abraham has been asked, by God, to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. (Genesis 22: 2-3)
Abraham's faith in the Lord and all the Lord will provide is incredible. He knows that if he believes in the Lord, follows God's commands, and if he is dedicated to the Lord, he will be saved. He does not question God's request, he does not argue, he simply does. He readies his son for the holocaust, all the well believing that God would provide the holocaust himself, whatever that meant, Abraham was willing to go forward, to sacrifice his son to the Lord. (Genesis 22: 7-8).
God realizes how devout Abraham is and sends an angel to stop him just before he is about to offer up Isaac. (Genesis 22: 11-12)
In the end the end the angel tells Abraham "I swear by myself, says the Lard, that because you acted as you did in to withholding from me your beloved son, I will bless you abundantly and your descendant as countless as the stars of the sky and the sands of the seashore..." (Genesis 22: 16-17)

There is so much more to this story than meets the eye...God does not truly intend for Abraham to kill Isaac, that would be crazy, what God wants to know is that Abraham is devout, that he is upright and willing to follow God, no matter what. It's a test of faith and Abraham passes with flying colors.
What's incredible about this story, is that in the end God does this very same act for us, but doesn't stop just before it's time to actually follow through. He loves us so much that he offers his son as a holocaust for our sins..."For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him." (John 3: 16-17).

Week 5: Reading Plan

Monday

Monday
Reflection Question for the day: Trust in God’s Timing.
Abraham was 100 years old when Sarah gave birth to Isaac. God fulfilled his promise to Sarah, when He thought the time was right. Isn’t it incredible to know that God is working miracles in your life right now! Miracles that you might not even imagine are coming!

Reflect for a moment on the miracles God has already worked in your life. List them. Have you thanked Him for them?

Tuesday

Tuesday
Reflection Question for the day: The Ultimate Sacrifice.
God put Abraham to the test – what some might consider the “ultimate test” – to sacrifice his son, Isaac, as an offering to the Lord. He does it! Well…not exactly, you read that God stops him before his does it, BUT Abraham would have! Wow!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” John 3:16

How do you thank God for His ultimate sacrifice?

Wednesday

Wednesday
Reflection Question for the day: Death & Dying.
The loss of a loved one is emotional, whether sudden or expected, their absence in our lives is difficult.

Take a moment to honor those you have lost.

List them by name, then pray for them.

Thursday

Thursday
Reflection Question for the day: A Sign.
Abraham sends a servant to find a Canaanite woman for Isaac to marry. God send angels before the servant to help with this task. Abraham tells his servant that the right woman will give a specific “sign” – offering water to both the servant, as well as his camels…Rebekah makes the cut.

How do you know the relationship you are in, is the one God has chosen for you? What sign(s) has God given you?

Friday

Friday
Reflection Question for the day: What Good will it do God?
Rebekah is pregnant with TWINS! The children in her womb are struggling so much she consults God, who tells her she is carrying two rival nations in her womb.

Lets focus on the second part of the verse – “what good will it do me!” – isn’t that a profound thought, when faced with a conflict? Moreover, what if we were to change the statement to say “what good will it do God?” – imagine how different the world would be.

Who or What are you rivaling with right now? What good will it do God?
