Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

This past Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.
One comment made in the homily has stuck with me, so much so that I am sharing it with all of you.

Father Matthew asked us to reflect upon God as HE IS, not as He does for us! WOW!
This really caught my attention and I confess to all of you that I cannot count how many times have I failed, in that I have focused on what God does, rather than who He is. Truly, I've really never considered it this way before, but it makes perfect sense.
So...who is God?
He is "the creator", the giver of life.

"In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the water." Genesis 1:1-2

So...where should look for God?
In his cherished creations...God created the cosmos, the Milky Way Galaxy in which we live...yet only ONE planet in this incredible system has an atmosphere and terrain that is conducive to support life - Earth.
Yet, if you take a look at the bigger picture, what the cosmos are, you will learn that there are roughly one hundred billion galaxies, the milky way is really just one minute spec in this awesome system of plants and stars.

What does this say about man?
We are His cherished creation. God gave us his chosen planet in which to live and thrive. God chose US!
He has a limited interest in the cosmos, but an infinite interest in us. His love, His blessings, His interest is in YOU!
God wants to get personal with you, He wants you to be interested in Him too!

So...how do you get personal with God?
God is a personal God, so much so that He comes to us as the Holy Trinity.
The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

We know God created angels first, but they are pure spirit, no body. He chose us to be bodied persons, with a spiritual soul. No two people are alike, not even identical twins, each of us is uniquely made and all of us are loved by God, who is so personal that he made us in his  image and blessed us.
"When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God;
he created them male and female.
When they were created, he blessed them and named them 'man'."
Genesis 5:1

Your father is so personal, that unlike any other animal on the earth, He breathed into us, the breath of life. Your lungs are filled with His divine breath. In every way he is calling us to be close to him.
But he doesn't force it, he gave us free will, he gave us the ability to have understanding of broad concepts, to feel, to love...in hopes that we too will chose him, just as he has chosen us.
"Lord God formed man out of the clay of the ground
and blew into his nostrils the breath of life,
and so man became a living thing." Genesis 2: 7

Your Father loves you, so much so, that he gave His only begotten Son, so that you might have eternal life with Him. All you have to do is believe in him, have FAITH in Him! God is so personal that he wants to be with you forever.
"For God so loved the world that he gave him only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life." John 3:16

God's love for us is what motivated Him to make us. He wants us share our life with others, with our own families and friends and with Him! All we have to do is have FAITH!

So...I'll pose the question once more...how do you get personal with God?
The answer is simple...FAITH
To know God, we must seek Him.
Read his WORD, attend Church, talk to Him in prayer, but we must also have faith in Him and His plan for us.
"Faith begins when our limited minds come to and end. When we chose to just believe."
Father Matthew
